This event began 02/18/82 and repeats every year forever

En 1982 la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) declaró el 18 de febrero como el Día de la Mujer de las Américas. Con el objetivo de rendir homenaje a todas las mujeres del continente, que lucharon para obtener el reconocimiento de sus derechos políticos y civiles. Además de lograr participar en todas las áreas de la actividad nacional e internacional.

Este día fue establecido también, para conmemorar la creación de la Comisión Interamericana de las Mujeres en 1928. Cuando un grupo de mujeres del continente llegaron a la Habana, para exigir que se les permitiera formar parte en la Sexta Conferencia Internacional de los Estados Americanos. Y que se ratificara un tratado de derechos igualitarios.   

Así, el Día de la Mujer de las Américas reconoce el papel vital que las mujeres del continente desempeñan como agentes de cambio social.
